Benefits, housing and legal advice

Care Managers are not directly responsible for providing advice on the following areas.

Benefits and the West Sussex County Council Charging Policy

Adult social care services are not free to everyone.

  •  If a funded service is being implemented from adult social care, the transition worker will make a referral to the council's Welfare Benefits Advisor Team. Their primary role is to assess if the young person needs to contribute towards their package of care.
  • The assessed contribution is dependent upon the young person’s financial situation.
  • While the Welfare Benefits Advisor Team can help with ensuring the young person and their carer are receiving the benefits they are entitled to. The best place to seek this advice is the Department for Work and Pensions Gov.uk.
  • The turn2us.org.uk and entitledto.co.uk websites offer free advice, a benefits calculator and a grants search, along with other useful financial information and resources.
  • Please speak to your local Citizens Advice if you need support with claiming benefits.

Housing

Please seek advice about housing from your local District or Borough Council. Young people with disabilities have equal rights to housing  and will  need to register if they are in need of  housing support.

Legal advice

Free advice on legal matters can be obtained by your local Citizens Advice ; they can also advise on legal aid from solicitors
