Carers Support West Sussex

Carers Support West Sussex offer a wide range of services to support parents/carers in their caring role including support groups, a call-back service, counselling, equipment, a carer learning programme, response line, and the carer wellbeing fund if the carer is not eligible for a carers direct payment. They also have teams to support carers of people with different needs, e.g. learning difficulties, autism, Asperger’s syndrome, dementia, drugs and alcohol, and mental health. There are also groups for parent carers, young adult carers, men’s groups and LGBTQ carers.   Carers can refer themselves direct from clicking on the link above or calling 0300 028 8888.

Carers emergency contact card

The carers emergency contact card is credit card sized, laminated and designed to identify people as a carer and, should they have an accident, it states emergency plans and contacts.

The card is issued free of charge but you need to be registered with Carers Support West Sussex to apply for one.

Changing Places

 

Standard accessible toilets do not meet the needs of all people with a disability. Changing Places toilets offer equipment and are suitable for people who need more space when using the toilet. The website has a useful toilet map to help you plan a route anywhere in the country, prior to your journey.

 

Children with Disabilities Wiki

A useful, accessible tool created by Children’s Services which helps initiate discussions and planning for adulthood. It includes a ‘pointers for parent/carers’ guide and documents that the young person can complete (with/without support) and share with their school/college, social worker and associated professionals.

Citizen Card

CitizenCards are available for any UK resident and are issued in 3 age categories: ‘18+’ for adults, ’16 – 17’ for young people and ‘Under 16’ for children. Available as a physical ID card plus as a free digital ID app.

Crawley Community Action

Crawley Community Action provides a wide range of information on local services, courses and  links to countywide support for people with mental health difficulties.
