The Laurels is a day opportunity service providing person-centred support for people over the age of 18 with a variety of care and support needs.

The Laurels was refurbished in 2021. The service is all on the ground floor level and has an outside area with accessible pathways. Outside activities are held on-site and make use of facilities including a greenhouse, two pergolas and a number of seating areas.

The Laurels has a variety of areas supporting people to build skills in various ways.

  • Accessible training kitchen which supports people with retaining independence and developing new skills.
  • Sensory suite providing opportunity to stimulate and engage people’s different senses.
  • Themed sessions celebrating traditions and cultures across the world.
  • Art and craft supports people to develop new interests and express their skills in different ways.
  • Quiz and games to support and stimulate people’s mental and physical health.
  • Computer suite supporting people to learn new skills in a safe environment.
  • Café and relaxing lounge area to maintain and develop independence skills such as preparing drinks and socialising with others.

People are also supported and enabled to be active community members using public transport to engage in local initiatives. These sessions currently include -

  • "Our Town" supports people with travel skills, establishing community contacts to help people feel safe for when they might need assistance.
  • Beach and park cleaning to encourage being an active part of the local community.
  • Community interaction to support greater independence for people.
  • Visits to cafes, museums and shops that support financial skills and developing community links.
