Next steps and key contacts to discuss developments

West Sussex County Council (WSCC) has been working with borough and district council partners on the development of this  Market Position statement (MPS). Discussions have focused on meeting different needs, re-defining what is meant by extra care housing (ECH) and ensuring a granular understanding of different areas' needs and requirements for new provision. A new focussed approach to planning new ECH schemes is being developed together by local authorities in West Sussex.

Borough and district council housing strategies and local plans are critical underpinning and enabling mechanisms to ensure that ECH schemes across West Sussex meet future demand.

There has been engagement with partners on this Market Position Statement but this is only the beginning of a journey of engagement, co-design and co-production. We will build on people’s existing experiences of living in ECH so that schemes of the future will be jointly planned and designed with service users, families, providers, partners, planners, developers and investors to deliver sufficient, high quality and affordable services. Individual scheme locations and designs will be co-designed and planned in partnership with a range of stakeholders, as will the future specification of care and support services within ECH schemes.

Developers and providers will be engaged in conversations alongside district and borough council colleagues on this MPS during 2024 on how we might collectively achieve these ambitions.
