With extra care as a key strategic objective for West Sussex County Council (WSCC), the ambitions are to significantly increase the number of ECH schemes and available units within the county. It is a further priority to broaden the current service offer to enable more people with different needs to be supported in ECH.
Table 5 below illustrates the supply of ECH required to achieve these objectives based on projected demographic growth and the following ambitions: -
- Older people: Increase the prevalence of ECH from the current levels of approx. 1 unit per 34 people to 1 unit per 18 people
- Lifelong services and learning disability: Increase the % of people currently supported in ECH from approx. 2% to 10%
- Working age mental health: Double the number of people supported in ECH services from 23 currently to 46
- Physical and sensory impairment: Increase the current levels of people supported in ECH by 20%
The ‘Gap in supply’ column identifies the net increase in current provision required to match the projected total demand but does not account for any current schemes that may need re-provision over the coming years.
